When I think of leadership, I think of standing in places where you may or may not be accepted. This lack of acceptance can make it hard to stay within those places, but as long as you understand that you belong, you'll be ok!
Placing third for my oratiorical competition felt like more than just a win. I worked for that win, and my efforts paid off in my work. I was told that my speech could bring tears to those who least expect it. It wasn't just what I said, my delivery stood impactful to those watching. I won't lie, I was very nervous, as every time I performed this speech for my peers, I tripped up my words. However, that's what practice is for. With more practice came success. Every word rolled off the tougue like muscle memory, and I was speaking without memory. When I presented my speech that day, I left a lasting message. People came in that room thinking of me as a stranger, but they left seeing me as a bronze winner.
People understanding womens rights and bodies has always been my no. 1 goal. Too many girls no little or nothing about their bodies, it's concerning. Doing the research for this project helped me understand more about my body. I mean, I knew a lot, but I know even more now. Our version of the best life for both girls and boys is when both of them understand what girls go through, so when girls make certain decisions about their bodies, it isn't shamed. Our board covered topics like; reproductive issues, abortion, menstural cycle, etc. Our goal was to send a powerful message to many young girls and boys around us. Winning best in our category felt like a true win because it felt like we already broke the stigma, even if we got a long way to go. We plan to expand our project into provided education for girls and boys around our school. This is only the beginning.
While I didn't physically present out board to the judges, I was a major help in creating our foundation. The CASE Competition was an annual event hosted by Leaders of Tomorrow. A fortune $500 company presents to us an issue, and it's our job to use accurate data and statistics to provide a clear response of how this problem could be resovled. Our company was Spotify. We needed to assist Spotify increase revenue sales within the nex decade, and overall drive more attention to this company. Personally, I prefer Apple Music, but we needed to help the client. My role in this endeavor was the Alternative Presenter, meaning that if one of the presenters couldn't attend, I would take their place. All the presenters ended up attending, but I worked hard on the presentation and ensured confidence in all of the presenters. Our presentation was lovely, and the outcome held meaning. We didn't win, but we worked hard and supported each other. At the end of the day, that's what everyone remembers.
